CONEG Governors Convene 2020 Winter Meeting


Outgoing CONEG Chair, Governor Phil Scott (VT) convened the CONEG governors winter breakfast meeting on Sunday, February 9 in Washington, DC. The purpose of the meeting was to assemble a roundtable discussion on regional issues and elect a new chair.

Governor Ned Lamont (CT) was elected to chair CONEG for 2020-2021.

 

In this leadership role, Lamont will also serve as Co-chair of the New England Governors and Eastern Canadian Premiers (NEG/ECP). Connecticut will host the NEG/ECP Conference in Montville, Connecticut on September 20-22, 2020.


In attendance were Governor Phil Scott (VT), Governor Ned Lamont (CT), Governor Janet Mills (ME), and Governor Charlie Baker (MA). In their roundtable discussion, the governors discussed several issues facing the region and opened the discussion with a focus on the energy market and policy. 

 

The governors talked about promoting hydropower in the region as well as their concerns about ongoing permitting delays for offshore wind projects. They also discussed prescription drug prices and opioid abuse. The governors agreed on the importance of a regional approach to solving these problems.
