House Acts on Infrastructure

Updated July 7, 2020

Over the past several weeks, the House of Representatives has turned its focus to transportation reauthorization and an infrastructure package. On June 18, 2020, the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure (T&I Committee) approved a five-year, $494 billion surface transportation reauthorization bill—the “Investing in a New Vision for the Environment and Surface Transportation in America (INVEST in America Act). The legislation, which was passed on party lines, represents a 60 percent increase above current spending levels.

A broad summary of the legislation can be found here.

The legislation will head to the floor next week where it will be combined with other pieces to make up a $1.5 billion infrastructure package. We have developed a summary which we hope will help you better understand the status of all the different proposals as they relate to transportation funding. The purpose of this document is to provide summary and context on the numerous packages being worked on and discussed.

Also provided is a comprehensive review of the INVEST Act, and below please find a State-by-State analysis of funding, policies, and other items specifically tailored for the CONEG states (click on each state to view the analysis).
