Governor
Jim Douglas was elected Governor of Vermont in
November 2002, and was elected to his 4th term in November 2008.
Governor Douglas is a graduate of Middlebury College and has spent more
than 30 years serving the people of Vermont. He was elected to the
Vermont House of Representatives, being selected by his peers as
Assistant Majority Leader in his second term and as Majority Leader in
his third term at the young age of 25.
Governor Douglas was elected Secretary of State in 1980 and held that
post until 1993. In 1994, he was elected State Treasurer and won re-election
to that post every two years until his inauguration as Governor in 2003.
In his 2008 State of the State address, Governor Douglas reiterated his
focus on economic growth, stressing the need for affordable health care and
home ownership, and for investments in job creation and the environment.
Governor Douglas and his wife Dorothy, have two sons.
