Governor
Jim Douglas was elected Governor of Vermont in
November 2002. Governor Douglas is a graduate of Middlebury College and
has spent the last 30 years serving the people of Vermont. He was elected
to the Vermont House of Representatives, being selected by his peers as
Assistant Majority Leader in his second term and as Majority Leader in his
third term at the young age of 25.
Governor Douglas was elected Secretary of State in 1980 and held that
post until 1992. With his election as State Treasurer in 1994, he has
since won re-election to the State Treasurer's post every two years.
In his inaugural address, Governor Douglas stressed the need for fiscal
responsibility as well as actions to improve public schools, develop a
more efficient environmental permit system, combat illegal drugs and
address the health of agriculture.
Governor Douglas and his wife of 27 years, Dorothy, have two sons.
