Governor
Deval Patrick was elected 71st Governor of the Commonwealth of
Massachusetts in November 2006. Born on July 31, 1956 he is a graduate
of Harvard University and Harvard Law School.
In addition to his work in private practice, Governor Patrick served as a
lawyer with the NAACP Legal Defense Fund and in 1994 was appointed by
President Bill Clinton as Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights, the
nation=s top civil rights post. Governor Patrick also worked as Executive
Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary for The Coca-Cola
Company.
In his 2008 State of the Commonwealth address, Governor Patrick spoke of
the need for an agenda based on schools, jobs and civic engagement. He
called for increased funding for public schools and early education;
promoting energy efficiency and renewable energy; and providing property tax
relief.
Governor Patrick and his wife Diane have two daughters.
