L. Patrick
Governor
Deval Patrick was elected 71st Governor of the Commonwealth of
Massachusetts in November 2006. Born on July 31, 1956 he is a graduate
of Harvard University and Harvard Law School.
In addition to his work in private practice, Governor Patrick has served
as a lawyer with the NAACP Legal Defense Fund and in 1994 was appointed
by President Bill Clinton as Assistant Attorney General for Civil
Rights, the nation’s top civil rights post. Governor Patrick also worked
as Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary for
The Coca-Cola Company.
In his inaugural address, Governor Patrick spoke of the need to reach
for more and better jobs, more accessible and affordable health care,
safer neighborhoods, and investment that offers longer term results, not
quick fixes. He promised to reorganize the executive branch, partner
with local governments, and make state government more accessible to its
all citizens.
Governor Patrick and his wife Diane have two daughters.
